Job Description Job Description The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is the leading advocacy organization working to reduce tobacco use and its devastating consequences in the United States and around the world. Through policy advocacy campaigns and strategic communications, Tobacco-Free Kids works to change public attitudes about tobacco and promote proven policies that reduce tobacco use and save lives. Tobacco-Free Kids is seeking a Vice President of Federal Government Relations to lead the development and implementation of the federal advocacy agenda. Responsibilities include directing the organization’s lobbying and field operations and coordinating with other departments in the organization. This position is based in Washington D.C. and reports to the Executive Vice President. WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH: • Develop in-depth knowledge of a wide range of tobacco issues. • Shape the Campaign’s position on all tobacco related federal legislative issues. • Develop and carryout strategies for advancing the Campaign’s legislative agenda in both the House of Representatives and Senate including supervising a team of 3 in-house lobbyists and several contract lobbyists. • Supervise and provide direction for the federal field operations program. • Ensure that the Campaign’s relationships on Capitol Hill are maintained and strengthened. • Oversee efforts to monitor legislative activity and analyze legislative proposals. • Draft a range of written documents including legislative proposals, testimony, position papers and congressional correspondence. • Help coordinate the work of the federal team with other departments including research, strategic partnerships, communications, and the legal and regulatory team. • Maintain daily collaboration with the Executive Vice President. • Assist in coordinating with partner organizations on shared legislative priorities. • Actively participate on the Campaign’s management team. • Manage the federal advocacy team’s budget. • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Vice President. SKILLS YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE: • Extensive knowledge of the federal legislative process. • Knowledge of tobacco issues. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Ability to take initiative and work independently. • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while juggling and coordinating multiple projects and deadlines. • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field. • Twelve or more years of legislative and/or issue advocacy experience.
